Introducing Nadex® and Ökomer™

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental threats we face. Every day, new studies report on the many and varied adverse effects of plastic on nature and on human health, and stress the importance of reducing plastic usage “as soon as possible”. After years of R&D, we launched Ökomer™ and Nadex®.
Ökomer™ and Nadex® are “green” components that can be used to manufacture various sustainable applications. Ökomer™ is a mix of plant-based fibers and natural materials while Nadex® is a nanofilter layer, providing superior filtration efficiency and breathability.

We are here to solve a million-ton waste problem

Plastic is such a concern nowadays that the 2023 World Environment Day focused on the plastic pollution crisis. Humanity produces more than 430 million tonnes of plastic annually, two-thirds of which are short-lived products that soon become waste, filling the ocean and often work their way into the human food chain - poisoning the environment first, before poisoning the people that depend on that environment. A literal “lose-lose” situation. “Many people aren’t aware that a material that is embedded in our daily life can have significant impacts not just on wildlife, but on the climate and on human health,” says Llorenç Milà i Canals, Head of the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP’s) Life Cycle Initiative.

Seeing all the plastic-based face masks from Covid-19 ending up in landfills and the sea was a wake-up call. It was estimated that 1500 billion face masks (amounting to 6 million tons of plastic waste) were thrown into landfills every year globally, of which 1.6 billion ended up in the ocean. ÖKOsix helps to immediately address the plastic crisis with its face masks but from that, several major polluting applications can now also become sustainable: diapers, wipes, gowns, and more.
